ARC? PLC? SCO? At times, the 2014 Farm Bill can seem like an acronym soup. It can be a time consuming and sometimes frustrating job to evaluate all the options and make the best decision for your operation.
To make your life a little bit easier, we’ve built two free tools which you can use together with your MPCI agent to understand different scenarios and trade offs.
Farm Bill Advisor
Climate’s Farm Bill Advisor – available at www.climatefarmbill.com – helps you understand how Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC), Price Loss Coverage (PLC), and Supplemental Coverage Option (SCO) payouts are calculated. You can then walk through a series of scenarios and see how your assumptions about prices and yields affect payouts. You can either calculate payouts in a single year or you can switch to the 5-year year analysis.
To learn more about our Farm Bill Advisor, watch the video below.
In addition to the Farm Bill Advisor, Climate has developed a brand new Multi Peril Quoter for 2015. APH information and practice/type information is automatically available to growers with our new policy specific quoting. We also help you understand how the Supplemental Coverage Options (SCO) can improve your coverage by allowing you to run scenarios. You can adjust harvest yields, harvest prices, and harvest county yields in order to evaluate how different insurance plans perform under different scenarios.
Here is another video which explains how our Multi Peril Quoter works:
There are many great external resources out there including Farmdoc Fast Tool from University of Illinois and the USDA/NAAFP Decision Aids from Texas A&M. You can also take a look at our handy guide to the Farm Bill.
