“I’m very happy and satisfied with Total Weather Insurance (TWI) – it’s a kick in the face when you can’t work, but it’s nice to get a check. I’ve told other farmers in the community about it, and now it’s the big talk around here.”
Rodney Creech is a father of two young daughters and is a 4th generation farmer, growing corn and soybeans with his dad. Having farmed up to 1,300 acres with his uncle years ago, he reduced his operation to the 400 acres of land that he owns, saying that the operations is “smaller, but I enjoy it. I was born and raised my whole life on a farm. I wouldn’t know what to do without it, because farming is a huge part of my life and I just look forward to doing it.”
Even more than the challenges that come with management and marketing decisions, Rodney finds the weather to be the biggest cause of stress when it comes to his operation. “Weather affects me more than anything – it affects everything we do as famers. I’ve been farming on my own for eight or nine years and in that time I’ve only had two really good crops, with the rest being average or even below average. And it’s not the farming practices causing the yield loss, it’s the weather.”
For Rodney, purchasing a Total Weather Insurance (TWI) policy with The Climate Corporation was “a no brainer” and he “really didn’t have any hesitation.” He describes TWI as “a perfect fit because we’re going to have weather issues – not every year, but it’s going to happen. From a risk reduction standpoint, it’s another way to protect myself. The last thing you need is added stress.”
“I heard about TWI through my crop insurance agent. I run a hundred miles an hour, so I only needed to ask a few questions, and knew right away I wanted to try it.” After his purchase, Rodney found it easy and convenient to be able to monitor and track the progress of his policy.
