“Total Weather Insurance (TWI) is definitely worth taking a look at. You never know from year to year what you’re going to run into. There are always ‘what ifs’ and if you don’t have it, that’s when you need it most. TWI provides protection over things you can’t control.”
Josh Norris farms 1,200 acres – growing corn, soybeans and winter wheat. Josh began farming with his dad before purchasing a third of the land he now works, which includes acreage his father farmed as well. With one child and another on the way, Josh and his wife are particularly mindful of the challenges all farmers face and the importance of protecting their profits.
“The weather is starting to be a big factor. We’ve had flooding two years out of the last three at planting last year was a pretty crazy year,” said Josh. “As a result, I was interested when the crop insurance agency came to me with information about Total Weather Insurance (TWI). I looked it up on the Internet and talked to other farmers.”
Last fall, after reviewing the Weather Risk Report available to all growers, Josh purchased a TWI policy on the recommendation of his crop insurance agent who was purchasing a policy for himself. His agent’s purchasing decision gave him the confidence to try it himself and so far this season, he’s been pleased with the returns he’s gotten from the Early Season Rain component and plans to take out even more coverage with TWI next year.
“TWI helps bridge the gap left by crop insurance. If you’ve got a bad year and you don’t have enough to get a crop insurance claim, then TWI can help,” adds Josh. “It provides coverage whether there’s a crop or not. I still watch the weather closely every day. TWI was right on the money in terms of the payments we received.”
