“Total Weather Insurance provides me with an opportunity to connect with some farmers we didn’t touch with crop insurance and introduce our agency, abilities, and knowledge. It’s also given me an opportunity to provide my existing clients with an additional, important option for managing their weather risk.”

His Story

Chuck Gabel was a farmer for 15 years, and then “somewhere along the line got involved in the insurance business.” Chuck has now been in the insurance business for over 30 years, and utilizes his farming background to help growers with their farm, crop and weather insurance.

Before working with Total Weather Insurance, Chuck says “the only option we had to help farmers with their weather risk was crop insurance. Now that we’ve added Total Weather Insurance (TWI) to our portfolio, we can offer additional coverage to protect their investment in their crops.” When Chuck was first introduced to TWI, he “listened to the value proposition, went to the web site and studied it, and thought there was a place for it” in his portfolio of options to offer his clients.

Chuck describes Total Weather Insurance as something that “certainly helps growers cover some issues that crop insurance doesn’t. There’s 25% of their crop not covered, so TWI covers that top end if something happens. 99% of people who buy crop insurance and who buy TWI don’t want to use it. They want the crop. We’re just protecting the farmer’s investment, which by the way keeps getting greater and greater as input costs like fuel, fertilizer and chemicals continue to go up.”

Chuck and his clients value that “TWI is very easy to understand. Crop insurance is a paper nightmare. None of that occurs with TWI. My clients buy it and they’re done. If there’s a weather situation, my client receives a check.”

Chuck also see TWI as future-proofing for his clients as his “concern is what’s going to happen to the crop insurance industry with the budget issues? Down the road, Total Weather Insurance may be the only game in town.”

Chuck says that working with The Climate Corporation has provided him with “an opportunity to connect with some farmers we didn’t touch with crop insurance and introduce our agency, abilities, and knowledge. It’s also given me an opportunity to provide my existing clients with an additional, important option for managing their weather risk.”

With two TWI selling seasons under his belt, Chuck says that “what I’ve learned is that The Climate Corporation is constantly working to improve and enhance their product. I appreciate that. And they’re there to help me, they help with farmer meetings, and they’re always there to assist.” Chuck’s advice to other agents exploring a partnership with The Climate Corporation is that “you need to take a look at it."
